Getting Around Connecticut

As a tourist, your first concern is how to get around Connecticut. Accommodations, restaurants, and entertainment can be easily taken care of once you know how to go from one place to another. Well, you do not need to worry too much when it comes to transportation. It is never going to be a problem in Connecticut.

If you happen to be from Europe and you are interested in visiting Connecticut, gone are the days when you have to stop over other states and then ride a train or drive to get to Connecticut. The state has already opened its very own international airport—the Bradley International Airport. The airport is situated in Windsor Locks, which is twenty-four kilometers north of Hartford. Aside from Bradley International Airport, Connecticut has three more airports namely the Tweed-New Haven Airport, Danbury Municipal Airport, and Waterbury-Oxford Connecticut.

Now that air travel is secured, let’s go to land transportation. The state has its own bus service, thanks to Connecticut Transit which is under the ownership of the Connecticut Department of Transportation. There are also local bus services provided by smaller municipalities. Going to Connecticut’s urban areas like Bridgeport and New Haven is literally just a bus ride away.

Besides buses, you can take advantage of rail services to go from one Connecticut town to another. For example, the Amtrak Regional line has stations in Old Saybrook, New London, Mystic, and New Haven-State Street. Connecticut has commuter services as well. Said commuter services provide travelers a means of transportation from smaller towns to the main train station.
